Victoria Elizabeth Ruwitch

Victoria Ruwitch, 96, of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 surrounded by her four children.

She was born and raised in New York City, the daughter of Dr. Raymond Garbutt and Elizabeth Kidney. She attended boarding schools in New York and Massachusetts, graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, and while at Michigan State University married navy veteran, Joseph Ruwitch. They moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where Joe practiced veterinary medicine and their first two children were born. They settled in Boulder, Colorado in 1954. Two more children joined the family. It was during these busy years, Vicki graduated from the University of Colorado and began a 10 year teaching career at Boulder High. In 1978, she and Joe retired to Victor, Idaho - arriving each year in May and returning in the fall to winter in Boulder. In 1991 they settled permanently in Louisville.

Vicki had many interests including sailing, backpacking, traveling, and hiking in her younger years. Her garden, loom, books and kitchen filled her life with pleasure. Her involvement with the Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Hospice and other volunteer projects gave her life substance. Her family and friends gave her life comfort and joy.

Vicki, widowed in 1993, is survived by her children: Tom (Judy McDonald), Emma, Jim (Theresa), and Joe. Grandchildren: Megan, Phil, Amy, Sara, Trevor, Michael, Seth and Maggie. Great grandchildren: Emma Rose, Colton, Taylee, Alfie, Oliver, Evryn and Aviva.


Vicki’s celebration of life will be held at Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on the morning of Saturday, November 20, 2021.
