Carol J. Jensen

November 25th, 1924February 27th, 2015

Carol, 90, passed peacefully on February 27, 2015 at the Elk Run Assisted Living Facility in Evergreen, Colorado. A Boulder resident for 44 years (1948-1992), she and her husband, Curtis L. Jensen owned and operated the Stage Stop Motel, 210 Arapahoe Ave., for 17 years forming lifelong friendships with many of their guests. During her time in Boulder she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. Carol was born on a farm outside Crystal Lake, IA and taught  in a one-room schoolhouse after her high school graduation. At 21, she came to Denver as a switchboard operator with United Airlines in 1945 where she met Curt, also from Crystal Lake. They married, bought the motel, and eventually acquired an adjacent property, 300 Arapahoe Ave., a seven acre parcel with a small, tar-roofed, rock house where they raised their family.  In 1968, realizing their dreams, they completed an expansion of the home, drawing the plans and doing much of the work themselves. They entertained friends and family frequently with a beautiful panoramic view of the Red Rocks and Boulder as the backdrop. Carol lost Curt due to a massive heart attack while on a camping trip with friends at Grand Lake outside of Marble, CO in 1976. For several years she wintered in Mesa, AZ with friends and continued an active social life. After selling her Boulder home in 1992, she traveled for two years visiting relatives and friends before moving to Westminster, CO.  Carol cared for friends and neighbors throughout her life and was well loved for her down-to-earth, often humorous, approach. The last 5 ½ years of her life she resided at Elk Run suffering from dementia. She is survived by her two children, Laurel Jensen of College Park, MD and Dana Jensen of Indian Hills, CO, her daughter-in-law, Cate Jensen, and her two grandchildren, Jane and Molly Jensen. She is dearly missed.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church located at 1421 Spruce St, Boulder, CO, Friday, March 6, beginning at 10:00 am.

Laurie, Dana, Cate, Jane and Molly I was Carol's neighbor at Horizon Pointe in Westminster. Carol was not only my neighbor but my friend, my helper, my confidant and source of clear thinking when I needed one. She was an angel that God placed in my life for 10 years. I have missed her since she left Horizon Pointe. The times I visited her at Elk Run were special but also too few. I know she is with God now and safe. With sincere sympathy, Susie Fall
