Jeanne Anne Burke

Died — November 15th, 2015

Jeanne Anne Burke, 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 15, 2015 surrounded by family.  Jeanne was born in Duryea, PA, to Thomas and Jane Comer Monahan, and was the youngest of 6 children.  She moved to Detroit, MI in the late 1940’s where she began her nursing career and met the love of her life, Ernest Burke.  They married in 1950 and were blessed with 4 daughters – Kathy Parma, Karen Burke, Mary Huber and Rita Burke. Every year Jeanne and Ernie would plan a family vacation with the kids.  They would camp, visit family out of state or head to the Outer Banks in North Carolina.  They played games and sang many songs during those long and memorable road trips.  When the kids left home Jeanne and Ernie bought a small RV and continued to drive around the states. In 1999, they moved to Boulder, CO to be closer to their children.  Jeanne continued to travel and being a proud Irishwoman, was thrilled to visit Ireland in 2002.  Her last adventure was to Turks and Caicos to attend her grandson’s wedding.  In addition to nursing, Jeanne also managed to find time to cook and sew, and made dozens of beautiful dresses for her daughters. She was a great baker of desserts, a good listener, and a devout Catholic. But most of all she was a wonderful mother.

She is survived by her four daughters, 7 grandchildren - Christopher & Allison Piekarski, John, Kathryn & Michael Huber, Amber & Ryan Leible; daughter-in-law, Nicole Piekarski and one great grandson, Alexander.  She is preceded in death by her husband, siblings and parents.

Donations may be made to TRU Community Care Hospice of Boulder.

A memorial mass will be held in the chapel at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1317 Mapleton Ave, Boulder, CO on Friday, November 27th @ 10:00 a.m.
