Richard M. "Dick" Alire

     Richard “Dick" Alire, 87, of Louisville, passed away on July 30, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on July 5, 1932 to Richard and Adelina (Martinez) Alire in Colorado.

     Dick attended a church boarding school in New Mexico. He then attended a Methodist Church College in Nebraska and earned an MS degree from the University of Nebraska, then a Ph.D from the University of New Mexico.

     Dick and his wife, Kathleen, had two sons and four grandchildren. Their oldest son is a chemical engineer and the younger son is a coach for the U. S. Ski Team, World Cup. The two grandchildren are in college at Chico State in California.

     Dick worked at Los Alamos National Scientific Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 35 years. He continued to consult with both laboratories, mentoring young scientists late into life.

     Kathleen and Dick moved to Balfour Lodge from Louisville, where they cultivated many friends. Both enjoyed exercising at the Recreation Center in Louisville and also utilized Balfour’s facilities. They enjoyed participating in the Round Dancing Club.

     Shortly after moving to The Lodge, Dick served as chairman of the Food Committee, and he had also served at president of the Residence Council for a period of one and a half years.

     Dick is preceded in death by his parents, named above.

     He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen; two sons and four grandchildren.




     A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Louisville Cemetery in Louisville.
